Canned tuna theft hits South Philly! Here's what went down:
- Theft occurred August 8th, 3:30 a.m. Right outside Samuels Seafood Company
- Multiple suspects, 4 vehicles were allegedly swiping cartons of canned tuna from parked semi
- The driver, 63 years old, was asleep in the truck cabin, woken by an alert security guard, which in turn scared off the thieves.
Recent Trend
This heist is part of a cargo theft spree. Cargo thefts in the area doubled in the area from 2021 to 2022. As of August 2024, there have been 102 thefts reported.
Police Advisory: Don't play hero. If you spot suspicious activity, call 911 ASAP.
These thefts disrupt supply chains and hit truckers' wallets hard. The industry worries about the ripple effects on food prices and distribution.

Samuels Seafood Company has stated that their product was not affected by this theft but advises all drivers and factories within the area to be on the lookout for future potential thefts in the area.
