In the latest episode of "The FreightCaviar Podcast", we sit down with Ari Levy, FreightCaviar's content creator and former broker at Coyote Logistics and MoLo Solutions. Ari discusses his road to becoming a content creator at FreightCaviar and shares insights from his time working as a broker.
This week on "The FreightCaviar Podcast," we talk with Ari Levy, a FreightCaviar content creator and former broker at Coyote Logistics and MoLo Solutions. Ari recently started his own recruiting company, Landing Talent. He shares practical tips from his time as a broker, advice on moving from carrier to customer sales, and how he joined the FreightCaviar team.
Ari's journey started in the fall of 2015, during his junior year of college. At the time, he was exploring potential internships by attending various career fairs. After striking up a conversation with a Coyote representative at one of the events, he applied for an internship at the company. Shortly thereafter, Ari secured a spot at the highly competitive summer internship, under the guidance of Daniel Flahive.
“A lot of people view the internship at Coyote as a party. A summer in Chicago, going out for drinks. Dan was like, ‘I'll make it worth your while if you book a lot of freight.’ I knew what that meant. I hustled, and I was finishing at the top of the leaderboard every week. After the internship was over, they offered me a full-time position, and I got to go through my senior year of college without having to look for a job."
After finishing his senior year at college at Indiana University, Ari started his full-time job at Coyote as a carrier sales rep, later transitioning to customer sales at MoLo in 2020.
Ari shared tips on transitioning from carrier to customer sales.
“Make sure that you're knowledgeable of different kinds of freight. Be curious, poke around, ask questions, and then if you're looking to make a move into customer sales, use that carrier experience to your advantage.”
He shared a great tip Will Jenkins, his former manager at MoLo, gave him when Ari was working at the company between 2020 and 2023.
“One thing that he taught me, which I probably never would have thought about, is to Google a shipper on the map and go into Street View and look for all the different shippers around it. Oftentimes, these guys are kind of in an industrial yard, and there might be three or four other companies around there.”
He also talked about his experience working at Coyote and MoLo Solutions.
“Both were amazing experiences. I think the Silvers in general just know how to run companies and they know how to treat people right. They really created a sense of community. I remember one thing in particular about Coyote was that it was tribal. People were proud to work there and to go out to a bar and wear a Coyote or a MoLo shirt. There was a huge sense of teamwork and pride in the companies.”
As for his start at FreightCaviar?
“I've always been a fan of memes, whether in sports or politics. I came across FreightCaviar, and I kind of just started to think to myself, ‘ This is something that I can do. What ideas or memes would I have? How can I contribute?’ And I messaged Paul and said, ‘I think I might be able to help out a little bit.’ And that's how it started.”
Ari’s passion for the industry, combined with his curiosity and drive, has shaped his success. From his early days at Coyote and MoLo Solutions to his creative contributions at FreightCaviar, his career path is a testament to the power of seizing opportunities and continuously learning.
