North Carolina is investing heavily in their weigh station tech. The state is dropping $5.8 million to rev up two key inspection sites.

  • Hendersonville and Halifax County are getting the upgrades
  • Quarterhill Inc. landed two contracts for the job

The Tech Highlights

  • Weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems
  • E-screening for faster processing
  • Virtual weigh stations
  • License Plate Recognition (LPR)

In addition to all of this, trucks can now be weighed even at highway speeds.

Hendersonville's New Look

  • Both east and westbound lanes get WIM + E-screening
  • Two new virtual weigh stations added
  • Rest areas double as inspection points

Halifax County's Upgrades

  • New mainline sorter systems
  • Cutting-edge WIM tech
  • Tire Anomaly and Classification Systems
  • LPR capabilities

All in all, the upgrades hope to boost commercial vehicle safety, speed up driver inspections, and streamline I-95 corridor operations
